I'm in Kherson Again... Again...

I don't have a ton of time today, sorry! Elder Blackbeard went home, and I'm in Kherson again waiting for another mini-missionary. I'm taking care of doing a weekly language tip for the mission, hence I have no time to write.

Anyway, I've got it set up with another Elder, he's trading off with me on weeks. So that's fun!

I'll tell you all about the lovely time I've been having the past few weeks in next week's email.

Peace out!

Back to Nikolaev

I'm back again!

But I'm also super busy... so, short this time!

I got another mini-missionary instead of the two zap elders. This one's also from Kharkiv, but he actually exists this time! Woo!

His name is translated to Elder Blackbeard, therefore he will be refered to as such. He has some form of cerebral palsy, if I understand correctly. Anyway, super cool guy, he's teaching me to speak some Ukrainian.

Overall, fun week, maybe I'll explain more at a later date, but right now, I've gotta go!

Peace!

What is Even Happening Right Now

Hey everybody, how's it going? Good? Good.

Yeah... I'm in Kherson right now... again...

Fun week.

We went up to Zaporozhe, as planned, on Wednesday. Then we stayed there till Friday, which was not planned. We rode on a bus for 10 hours to get home that day. It was bad.

It's okay though, Zone Training was really cool on Thursday, I gave a section on learning the language, which everyone seemed to really enjoy.

On Saturday there was a picnic in Kherson, so we took all of our members from Nikolaev and went over to the beach on Kherson! It was super fun!

We found out that morning that Elder Mayberry was leaving Nikolaev to go to Kharkiv, the place Elder Kalt and Elder Jensen left to. President told me that I was going to serve with a mini-missionary in Nikolaev. Only problem was that he couldn't remember the name of my new companion, so he said I'd have to figure that out out later when the AP's called with travel plans.

That night, the AP's called to tell Elder Mayberry how he was gonna go to Kharkiv, so I asked them when my new companion was going to arrive, and what his name was. They said he'd be here Wednesday, but that they didn't know his name, and they had just been using a blank sheet of paper to represent him in their planning.

So, Sunday goes by, and at about 9:15 I suddenly get a horrible thought: what if my new companion just doesn't exist? Nobody knows his name, none of members can think of anybody who matches the general description that President gave me, we don't even know which branch in Kharkiv he's from. What if he just never really was?

'bout 15 minutes later, I get a call from the AP's

"Hey, Elder Robison. I've got some bad new for you. Well, maybe not bad news, but... it's news. Your short-term missionary just bailed. You're going to be serving in Kherson with Elder Ditty and Elder Fuller until we can find you a new companion. Sorry!"

Then I spent an hour laughing at the fact that somehow I ended up back in Kherson. With the same companion. Plus Elder Fuller.

At the same time I'm freaking out, because this whole situation means that there will be no missionaries at all in Nikolaev for the forseeable future, and that means I have to close English Practice, organize things with the members so that someone goes to help our recent convert, figure out how to explain to the members that there won't be any missionaries in their city anymore... fun stuff.

10:30 rolls around and I get a call from my Zone Leader, who's a total bro, and he tells me that he arranged for 2 missionaries from his city to come all the way down to serve with me in Nikolaev until they can find a new mini-missionary. So, disaster averted on all fronts for now! Thanks to everyone who had to organize that one, because that must have been fun!

So, that's how I ended up in Kherson. I'm here until Wednesday when my companions can make it down to the South.

woo.

Peace out!

The Charred Spot Where the Spider USED to Be

So, something I almost forgot happened recently, outside of our bathroom is a small charred region where there used to be a spider. I saw the spider, but it moved too fast for me to kill it conventionally and hid beneath a crack. I could still see it's leg though, so I knew it was still there. Undaunted, I grabbed the can of hair spray and the lighter that Elder Kalt had left behind in our apartment and proceeded to rain down with fire and brimstone upon this spider. He is dead now. A charred spot marks the place where Elder Robison was victorious over the spider in the bathroom.

Other than that, we had a good week! We were on the street most of the week talking to people.

On Monday I finally made borsch. I had no recipe, but that wasn't a problem, I just threw all the ingredients in in the order that Elder Mayberry and I decided was correct, and lo and behold it was correct! We got borsch!

Tuesday saw a huge group of people for our English practice. It was a really big group, and pretty fun.

On Wednesday we had district meeting, and Dasha made pancakes for our district and left them in the kitchen for us. They were really good. They were so good, that I needed more pancakes, so I made a ton of pancakes for lunch that day.

On Thursday we did weekly planning, but I got distracted because I found out we have to go to Zaparozhe again on Wednesday, so I had to call around with Elder Ditty to figure out our travel arrangements. We're both pretty done on the whole working with the AP's thing, so we're just going to take care of things ourselves from now on.

I fixed one of my socks while I was on the phone, and then during dinner I discovered that I can use our spare whiteboard to draw things. So I drew stuff.

Nobody came to English practice except Dasha, so we talked to her for a bit. Then Olya showed up about 30 minutes late. Then they both left and the rest of our English class showed up in time for Game Night.

Friday was a lot of contacting, but that afternoon one of the Germans found us on the street and invited us back to his house to eat borsch. So we did. His mom makes really good borsch, so I stole her recipe to combine it with mine and make the best borsch!

Saturday was a lot of contacting too, and then we went and visited a member in the hospital.

Sunday was really good, and we ended up visiting that member in the hospital again that night.

Today, we played frisbee again! Woo!

Going to Zaparozhe once again, should be cool! I really hope this situation gets changed so we can stop taking the 6-10 hour ride to Zaparozhe...

С Днём Независимости!!

So, this one requires back story.

Wednesday, we were walking home, when we passed by this group of women. One of them looked at me and leaned over to her friend and whispered "Он такой красивый!", "He's so handsome!". I thought I heard wrong, but Elder Mayberry heard it too.

The next day, at game night, our friend Sophie was telling us how when we sent out our reminder text for English practice one of her friends at the office saw my picture (because appearently that's linked with our phone number on her phone). This led to about and hour of half of Sophie's office coming up to Sophie, asking to see the picture, and then asking how to meet me. "You should have a lot more people that want to come to English practice now." is what she said afterwards.

Elder Mayberry and I can't figure out what's going on, so I described it with this comic.

This is the story of the charred spot where the spider USED to be

This is a half-loaf sandwich. Ya take a loaf of bread, circular is preferrable. Ya cut it in half and hollow it out. Then, you fill it with meats, rice, lettuce, and sauce of choice. Take the bread that ya already removed, smack it all over the front to seal in the delicious filling, then, BOOM! Half-loaf sandwich. Enjoy.

This one is just a funny. The time between starting rice and eating it is used effectively in our house.
